Clams Casino

Heard on 1 episode of EKHO Sonic Chill

Clams Casino is Michael Volpe, a producer from Nutley, New Jersey, whose hazy, choir-and-808 sound helped define what became known as cloud rap. Around April 2009 he built 'I'm God' at home around a sample of British singer Imogen Heap's 2005 song 'Just for Now', and emailed it to rapper Lil B after reaching him through MySpace. Lil B's version was on the 6 Kiss mixtape that December, and the beat became Volpe's best-known work. Imogen Heap liked what he'd done with her voice and was happy for it to come out as long as she was credited. The instrumental was finally released officially on 24 April 2020 on the compilation Instrumental Relics, and it was certified Gold in the US in 2024. Volpe also produced 'Palace' and 'Demons' on A$AP Rocky's breakthrough LIVE.LOVE.A$AP.
