Elizabeth Fraser

Say it: FRAY-zer
Heard on 2 episodes of EKHO Sonic Chill

Elizabeth Fraser. Out of Grangemouth, Scotland. Robin Guthrie and Will Heggie spotted her dancing at a local disco and figured maybe she could sing. She could. From 1981 she was the voice and lyricist of Cocteau Twins, right up until the band split in 1997. Then Massive Attack brought her in for their album Mezzanine, and she's the voice on both 'Black Milk' and 'Teardrop.' 'Teardrop' became a hit around the world. She also sang on Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings soundtracks. What a voice.

Fact-checked Oct 4, 2026.
