Empress Of is Lorely Rodriguez. Honduran-American, raised in Los Angeles by her mom, who came over from Honduras. As a kid she heard Björk for the first time and decided, in her words, 'I'm going to be the weirdest person I can possibly be.' It worked. Her debut album, Me, came out in 2015, and Pitchfork called her one of the most confident, skilled pop artists of the year. The next year she sang on 'Best to You,' off Blood Orange's 2016 album Freetown Sound.
