UK duo formed in 2002 by keyboardist Neil Cowley and music journalist Ben Mynott. Downtempo built from live keys, dusty jazz and dub-adjacent electronics rather than pure sample collage. Two albums: this one (2002) and Voices from the Dust Bowl (2004). Here's the thing: Cowley's a classically trained pianist who played a Shostakovich concerto at ten, and afterwards he went on to lead the Neil Cowley Trio and play the session piano on Adele's 21. So the hands on this record are the hands on some of the biggest pop of the 2010s.
