Artist
Richard Ashcroft. Frontman and songwriter of The Verve, the band that formed in Wigan, England, in 1990. Their 1997 album Urban Hymns is the one with 'Bitter Sweet Symphony.' In 1998 he sang 'Lonely Soul' for UNKLE, off Psyence Fiction. It runs nearly nine minutes, with strings arranged by Wil Malone, the same arranger who worked on 'Bitter Sweet Symphony.' How about that? After The Verve he went solo, starting with Alone with Everybody in 2000.
