Sarah McLachlan. Grammy winner out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and that lush pop-rock ("Angel," the album Surfacing) has sold over 40 million records worldwide. This one's her Afterglow song "Dirty Little Secret," reworked into a global groove by Thievery Corporation, Rob Garza and Eric Hilton out of Washington, D.C. They pioneered a downtempo sound built from dub, bossa nova, and Indian and Middle Eastern influences, and they run their own label too. The remix got a second life on the 2008 Bones TV soundtrack. And get this: Sarah founded Lilith Fair, the all-female touring festival. Top-grossing touring festival of 1997, and it raised more than $10 million for charity in its first three years. Her tenth studio album, Better Broken, came out in 2025.
