The Cure. Enduringly influential English band fronted by Robert Smith since the late 1970s, credited as pioneers of the gothic rock and post-punk sound that fed straight into new wave and darkwave. 'Lullaby' was the lead single from their 1989 album Disintegration, built around Smith's whispered vocal and a lush, plucked-string arrangement. It became the band's biggest UK hit, peaking at number five (their only UK top-five single), and its Tim Pope-directed video won British Video of the Year at the 1990 Brit Awards. In 2024 The Cure put out Songs of a Lost World, their first studio album in sixteen years.
