The Marías formed in Los Angeles in 2016 after Puerto Rico-born, Atlanta-raised singer María Zardoya met drummer-producer Josh Conway at the Kibitz Room in Canter's Deli. She was playing, he was running sound, and they started writing almost right away. Jesse Perlman (guitar) and Edward James (keys) complete the band. Hushed, jazz-tinged bedroom pop that moves between English and Spanish. Superclean Vol. I (2017) grew out of recordings first meant for TV projects that never materialized. The self-released start led somewhere big: they were featured on 'Otro Atardecer' from Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti, which was in the Album of the Year race at the 2023 Grammys, and 'No One Noticed' from 2024's Submarine climbed to number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100. At the 2026 Grammys they got their first nomination, for Best New Artist.
