Ernest Weatherly Greene Jr. of Perry, Georgia, the artist Pitchfork crowned the "Godfather of Chillwave." Sun-bleached synth-pop sung through tape wobble and reverb. His debut LP, Within and Without (2011), was produced by Ben H. Allen and debuted at No.26 on the Billboard 200. "Eyes Be Closed" opens it, with Mark Cobb on rototoms. Odd footnote: the album's cover photo later turned up in Cosmopolitan illustrating a piece on sex positions, which Greene noted "wasn't sexual at all and it wasn't supposed to be provocative." His fifth album, Notes from a Quiet Life, followed in 2024.
