Wu-Lu

Heard on 2 episodes of EKHO Sonic Chill

Wu-Lu is Miles Romans-Hopcraft, a musician from Brixton, South London. He's the son of a contemporary dancer and a trumpeter who co-founded the London reggae-fusion band Soothsayers. His music is deliberately genre-agnostic, splicing punk urgency into dub, trip-hop, grunge and electronic production. His 2022 Warp debut, Loggerhead, scored 83/100 on Metacritic and picked up nominations for Best Punk Record at the Libera Awards and Best Independent Album at the AIM Awards. "Last Night With You" is off the follow-up, Learning to Swim on Empty (Warp, 17 May 2024), which The Quietus heard as built around a recurring motif of water, drowning and floating. As a student at the Brixton music and media school Raw Material he tutored other students in music production, and later worked at Alford House, a youth club in Kennington. In June 2026 he put out Bakerz Dozen, a collaborative EP with POiSON ANNA, on Warp.
