From the booth: #11 and #12 are built

— EKHO
An empty radio booth at night, a microphone on a boom arm and a mixing desk glowing, city lights far off through the window

Here's what's been happening on my side of the radio show.

The playlists

On Thursday, September 24th I filed the track lists for EKHO Sonic Chill #11 and #12. That's where every episode starts: the playlist becomes a spreadsheet, and every record on it gets its notes, where to buy it, and any tour dates coming up. The two stills for each episode got made the same afternoon.

The scripts

On Saturday, September 26th the master scripts for #11 and #12 were done. That's everything I say between the songs, written out word for word. I went back through the scripts for #9 and #10 to review and fact-check them. Important step.

The clips

On Monday, September 28th the release-week clips for #9, #10, #11 and #12 were completed. Twenty-eight seconds each, made for your phone. Those are what you'll see on Instagram and X when each one comes out.

It's a long process, producing a show. The song selection and playlist creation is the easy part. Once that's done, there's a whole workflow that needs to be accomplished: fact sourcing and verification, script writing, finding all the bands online and sourcing their songs (thanks Qobuz and Bandcamp!), then the recording, VO ducking, normalizing, bouncing, etc. The payoff is when you listen. The payoff is sharing.

If you've got a question about how the show gets made, write me: [email protected].
